DAY 01 - HANOI - ARRIVAL - CITY TOUR (D)

Arrival at Hanoi airport in the morning – Transfer to hotel - Orientation city tour to visit : Hoan Kiem Lake, Ngoc son temple , Temple of Literature, Ethnology museum ( if time permit) Excursion by cyclo in the old quarters for 1 hour - Evening : Enjoy the Water-Puppet show - O/N in HANOI

DAY 02 - HANOI / HOA BINH / MAI CHAU (B, D)

Morning pick-up at your accommodation or rendezvous in Hanoi and drive to Mai Chau, a beautiful valley inhabited by the “Thai” people in Hoa Binh province. As soon as we get out of Hanoi, the limestone mountain ranges rush up and give the scenery an imposing view. Arrive in Mai Chau late noon, have lunch ( not included ) in Mai Chau and hike around the villages full of house-on-stilts, pretty handmade textile products and vast paddyfields to enjoy the routine life of the Thai people. Dinner, overnight in a house-on-stilt in Mai Chau. Enjoy music show in Mai Chau

DAY 03 : MAI CHAU / MOC CHAU / NGHIA LO (B)

We are crossing the most magnificent part of the Hoang Lien Son range - the Tonkinese Alps, the home of most colourful-dressed montagnards, who still maintain lots of their long-term culture and traditions. From Mai Chau, we will drive to Nghia Lo via Moc Chau, where located hundreds of immense farms of dairy cows and where the best tea of Vietnam is produced. Surrounding Moc Chau is the inhabitation of various tribes including the H'mong, Thai, Muong and Dzao. Let's stop en route to visit villages and orchard / tea farm in Moc chau before reach Nghia Lo. Night in Nghia Lo ( home of Black Thai )

DAY 04 - NGHIA LO /TU LE- KHAU PHA PASS - MU CANG CHAI - THAN UYEN - SAPA (B)
Continue your journey further north. The road takes you through Mu Cang Chai, famous for the terraced fields which have been listed as Vietnam’s national heritage. Admire the masterpiece of local H’mong people and take the chance to record as many frames as possible at this photogenic stretch. Continue to Than Uyen, home of the White Thai minority and known another “rice bowl” of the area. After lunch ( NOT INCLUDED) at a local restaurant in Than Uyen, proceed to Sapa, passing through an area inhabited by Blue Hmong, Thai, Dzao and Lu people and driving over the Lai Chau pass, the highest mountain pass in Vietnam.
Arrival to Sapa – a resort town founded by the French in 1922. Located 360 km from Hanoi, Sapa used to be the summer retreat for the French and is now a popular tourist destination for foreigners and locals alike. The area around Sapa has stunning vistas onto terraced rice fields and the region is home to a number of ethnic minorities, such as the Black H’mong, Red Dzao, Giay and Xa Pho hill tribe people. DAY 05 - SAPA (B)
Have a climb to the “Dragon Peak” of Sapa to have a panoramic view of the town with pinewoods and gardens looming in the mist. Visit Sapa market and the church before heading to Taphin valley to reach the villages of the H'mong and Red Dzao people, who are skillful in dying and making clothes and embroidery by traditional, old silk thread. Go on to Lao Chai (10km from Sapa) and walk thru 5km to Tavan with stops at the villages of the tribal people H'mong, Tay and Dzay en route. Back to Sapa for overnight. O/N in SAPA

DAY 06 - SAPA / LAO CAI / BAC HA (B)

If today is Saturday, Sunday or Tuesday, nothing will be better than driving overland to a market of the hill tribal people, mainly from Flower H'Mong ethnical group. Depending on the day, you can choose either Can Cau (Sat), Bac Ha (Sun) or Coc Ly (Tue). Out from this list Bac Ha is the biggest in terms of scale and area, but beside these markets, a lot of other mountain weekly market are also held on Wednesday and Thursday in the neighbourhood.
Early morning we'll drive toward Bac Ha ( If this is Sunday- for example), about 110km from Sapa. With a dozen of tribes living in the surroundings, including Flower H'Mong, Chinese, Nhang, Dzao, Nung, Phu La, Thai and King (or Viet), Bac Ha Marketthe market is extremely exciting esp. in the early morning. The winding road to Bac Ha helps maintain the colours (in both literal and figurative sense) of the area. The distance to Can Cau and Coc Ly from Bac Ha is 30-50km. In all these markets we can meet hundreds of beautiful women from Flower H'Mong tribe, who are famous for their wonderful craft and hand-made flowering clothes and textile fabrics, or intermingle with people from Black H'Mong, Dzay, Dzao and other ethnic groups coming to the market not for purchasing stuffs, but for meeting and chatting - just once a week - like in a real cultural center. After lunchtime, we will go trekking to further hamlets in Ban Pho, Trieu Cai, or Na Hoi. Back to Bac Ha in the afternoon for overnight.

DAY 07 - BAC HA / HA GIANG (B)

Route pour Ha Giang ( 200km). Stop for visit villages on the way - 4.00 PM -arrival Ha Giang. Overnight in Ha Giang

Day 08. HA GIANG – DONG VAN (B)

Today you will encounter some spectacular landscape. After acquiring a mandatory permit at the Immigration Office, you will begin your journey to Dong Van across a series of long passes. You will have lunch break ( not included) on route in the small but beautiful mountain town of Tam Son. Then you will head to the majestic King of the H’mong’s Palace, a fortress built by a local chief allied with the French against the Vietminh, Vuong Chin Duc. The palace, built in the early 1900s was designed in the ancient Chinese architectural style of the Man Qing era, made from materials such as solid stone, wood and terracotta tiles. After continuing your journey you will arrive at Hoa Cuong hotel around 5pm . Overnight stay in a hotel.

Day 09 - DONG VAN – MA PI LENG PASS – MEO VAC - BAO LAC - BA BE LAKE (B/- /D/)

An absolutely unforgettable day! It starts with a visit to the market of Dong Van, where the locals shop before returning to their mountain hamlets. We then climb a pass up to the French Fortress of Pu Lo, built in 1890 and evacuated in 1945, from which we enjoy a spectacular view of the entire region.
The road climbs on 15 km up to the top of the Ma Pi Leng Pass, through a gigantic maze of limestone peaks, "stone forests", and canyons, a unique landscape of the world. Descending into the valley of Meo Vac, we continue snaking through the mountains, cross the river, and arrive in the village of Bao Lac, where we have lunch. We take the mountain road Bao Lac - Cao Bang. Before Cao Bang, another one of our little secrets : a gorgeous small road snaking through the mountains to the Tay village of Cho Ra and then down to the Tay village of Coc Toc, where you are welcomed by Mr. Linh and his amazingly friendly Tay family in their traditional stilted house. If it’s hot, do like the local kids, just jump in the lake! You will enjoy a superb dinner (Mrs Linh is specialist in local dishes) on the river terrace.

Day 10 - BABE LAKE – CAO BANG (B)

A treat! Breakfast on the lakeside, then a short walk to the house owner’s boat, which takes you through the entire length of the 3 connected lakes (Ba Be - “3 bays”) and up the Nang River, to an astonishing site: Dong Puong, an enormous tunnel 300 mtrs long that the river has cut through a limestone mountain.
The boat then goes down river to the small village of Hua Tang, as simple and authentic as you have been dreaming of! . Afternoon, transfer to Cao Bang. Overnight in Cao Bang

DAY 11- CAO BANG - BAN GIOC - CAO BANG (B)
